A series of images taken of women and their families in the slums of Mumbai will be on show at the Upstairs Gallery, Berkhamsted from 23 - 28 August 2012 before touring the UK.
The images were taken by Vanessa Champion who was one of the first white westerners invited into the slum homes of the girls who play a big part in the series of images she has produced.
"These are not your expected photographs," said Vanessa. "They tell a story of love, laughter and above all the beauty of the human inner spirit."
The exhibition will feature black and white prints, cards, and projections. The images will include the slums, the charity workers, the buses on which the children come flooding out to, the girls in the slums, the girls experiencing first-in-a-lifetime-experience for them having coffee in the city, a photoshoot of the girls from the slums, and Mumbai itself. There will be some Audio Visual material, plus especially commissioned music by composers from the UK and LA.
The UpstairsGallery (268 High Street, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, HP4 1AQ) opens 10am - 4pm Tuesday to Saturday and will be open Sunday for the exhibition.
