Variable Aperture Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9 Plus Announced

Samsung has announced the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, updating the S8, with a new variable aperture 12mp camera with OIS, which can be switched between f/1.5 and f/2.4. The S9 Plus has a secondary telephoto camera with f/2.4 and OIS. Both smartphones have manual controls, and you can manually switch between the two apertures.

Video recording has been improved, with:

• Slow motion - 1080p at 240fps
• Super slow-motion - 720p at 960fps
• 4K video at 60fps

The S9 Plus has a "Live focus" mode with bokeh blur. The camera also offers live translation of signs and text when you point the camera at them.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 has a 5.8inch screen, with thinner borders than the S8, a 3000mAh battery, 4GB ram, and 64GB storage. The S9 Plus has a 6.2inch screen, with thinner borders than the S8 Plus, a 3500mAh battery, 6GB ram, and 128GB storage. Both smartphones feature a fingerprint sensor on the back below the camera(s), and memory can be expanded with a MicroSD card. A headphone socket can be found on the bottom, and both smartphones now have stereo speakers.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are available for pre-order, with a release date of 8th/9th* March, the S9+ (with 6GB/128GB) is £869, while the S9 (with 4GB/64GB) is £739. *Depending where you order it from.
