Technique:

Vertical panoramas are a unique and innovative way of taking panoramic photos. Instead of the usual horizontal panorama, which can give excellent views of rolling scenery and fantastic views of grand houses and their gardens, for example, vertical panorama gives you a whole new shooting scope.

Vertical panoramas can give you some truly stunning shots of tall waterfalls and trees, for example. It is also ideal for skyscrapers, wind turbines and windmills. Anything remotely tall and thin can look so much more impressive as a vertical panorama.
 

A lot of today's digital cameras offer a panorama option and some of the newer ones feature the option to change the panorama to vertical. To create your panorama you simply select pamorama mode on your camera, hold down the shoot button and move the camera in the direction of your selected scenery to capture your shot.

 It can be quite tricky to master this technique, for example, the first few times we tried, the camera was really fussy about what speed you moved it at. Too fast, and the camera wouldn't take anything at all, too slow, and the camera wouldn't take anything, either. You have to be standing near something really tall to utilise this technique to the fullest. Why not have a go yourself and see what you can capture?
