Vivo has announced its new flagship smartphone; it's called the Nex, it does have a pop-up selfie camera and it also has a very tiny bezel so the screen is, almost, edge-to-edge.

A concept smartphone design from Vivo has been doing the rumour site rounds for a while now with sites confirming a couple of weeks ago that a smartphone with a similar design would be announced today.

The Nex is based on the Apex and as the new smartphone has a pop-up selfie camera, it doesn't have a notch eating into the screen which, when combined with the thin bezels, results in a screen-to-body ratio of over 91%. Vivo says there's a slight bottom bezel but in all honesty, it's not very big.

Vivo calls the screen an 'Ultra FullView Display' and it measures 6.59-inch while having a 2316 x 1080px resolution.

As there's only a slight bottom bezel, the fingerprint sensor is built-in to the screen and there's no earpiece speaker either as the phone features 'screen sound casting technology'. As for the cameras, the front-facing pop-up has an 8MP sensor and f/2.0 aperture while the rear has a dual set-up with 12MP f/1.8 and 5MP f/2.4 cameras. The AI trend is still continuing, too, with scene recognition, filters, HDR and photo composition help available.

Snapdragon 845 is built-in along with 8GB of RAM and you have a choice of 128GB or 256GB of storage. The Vivo online shop also lists a 6G RAM, 128GB version of the smartphone.

Availability wise, we don't know when it will hit the international shops but it will be available online in China, from tomorrow, for CNY 4,498 (128GB) and CNY 4,998 (256GB). The 6G RAM version is slightly cheaper at CNY 3898 (£455 at current exchange rates).
