A charming image of a willet catching a crab has been awarded the POTW accolade this week.

The image, taken by ePz member jacques st-jean, is titled 'Crab on the menu!' and here's why we thought it deserved to win the accolade:

This is a beautifully lit image, and the drops spraying from the crab as the bird plucks it from the water add an almost magical effect. The sunlight highlights the bird and its catch perfectly, and the colours of both animals stand out against the inky-black water and cloudy sky in the background. 

It's a really effective action shot, and the bird has grabbed the crab by its pincer. The crab doesn't look like it's going to give up easily, and it's poised to take a nip at the bird as it's lifted from the water. It's an unusual composure - slightly off centre to leave space for the water droplets to the left - but it works well.
