If you're struggling to find the right camera for yourself or for a friend, then why not have a look at our buying guide to help you find the right camera for you.
| Digital Cameras
You only have to look at our review section to realise just how many cameras can be purchased and with each one claiming to be the best, it can be difficult to decide which camera you should buy. But, things don't have to be confusing as, actually, you can breakdown the vast array of cameras available into a few basic types and that's what we've done with this guide so you can figure out which camera is right for you much more easily.
We'll begin with the most basic compact cameras and work up through to the more advanced DSLR and Mirrorless cameras available. Plus, we'll also make a bit of a diversion to smartphones which are great for photographers as well as look at cameras with a specific purpose such as action/waterproof cameras.
Of course, you might not need to follow the guide all the way to the end so when you find a camera type that sounds right for you, click the links to take you to our top lists where you'll find the cameras, we think, are the best you can buy.
Our guide is split into pages so it's easy to read and it also means you can jump to a specific section if you have a rough idea on what camera, you think, might be right for you. You'll also find the pros & cons of each camera type listed should you only need a quick summary.
If you're looking for a guide to lenses, we also have that and it covers various brands, subjects and price options. Plus, we have a guide to buying smartphones for photography which you can find over in our smartphone guide section of the site.
Up first, in this guide, are compact cameras which can be cheap, easy to use and pocket-sized.
After compact cameras, we look at smartphones, advanced compacts, DSLRs, Mirrorless cameras, action cameras and then a few subject-specific suggestions such as cameras which are ideal for low light and video. If you're more of a nostalgic film fan, we take a look at film cameras, too.
