I Love Extreme Sports And/Or Travel Quite A Bit
Action/Waterproof Camera Positives
For adventurers, travellers and those who are into extreme sports, an action camera or tough camera might be better suited rather than a basic compact camera. An action or waterproof camera (often they're one and the same) will be perfect for you as they're tough, compact, weather-resistant and capture both stills/video.
Both tough and action cameras capture 4K video and they're really easy to use as well as not weighing a great deal so they're easy to pack. Action cameras also come with various mounts so you can fasten them to a skateboard or secure them to a handheld tripod to keep footage shake-free.
GoPro is the big brand everyone knows but there are some really good, less expensive options available too.
Pros: Lightweight, easy to use, tough, weather-resistant, underwater photography, 4K video
Action/Waterproof Camera Negatives
The lenses on action cams are rather wide and there's no zoom options. Manual control over exposure is also limited and you can only take quick photos, they're not really designed with photography in mind. Tough cameras, however, are and they capture decent photos, too, but they don't tend to have many manual controls. If you do want manual controls, consider purchasing a DSLR and buy waterproof housing.
Cons: Limited controls, fixed lens, no zoom, still photos from action cams aren't the best quality
Action/Waterproof Camera Price & Options
The price range of action and waterproof cameras is quite wide with prices starting at a couple of hundred quid and reaching around £600.

Our Recommendation: Panasonic Olympus Tough TG-6
The Olympus Tough TG-6 may be a fairly subtle update to the TG-5 but improves it in a number of ways, making it easier to get better results underwater, and makes the most of the impressive macro capabilities of the lens. The price remains the same as the RRP of the TG-5, so it makes sense to go for this model. The introduction of new accessories improves the appeal of this camera, and the previous model, too.
Overall, the Olympus Tough TG-6 offers great image quality, impressive macro performance, as well as 4K video and high-speed shooting features.
