 Pentax Ks2 Screen

The Pentax K-S2 features a tiltable screen, that can be altered upwards or downwards.

Here, we run through some situations where having a tilt screen will be useful in photography:

Shooting low down subjects - If you're shooting something at ground level, for example a flower, you can tilt the screen upwards towards you so that you don't have to lay or kneel on the floor to see what you're shooting.

Shooting high up subjects - Tilting the screen downwards when you're reaching up high will allow you to see exactly what you're shooting, without relying on guessing that you've got what you wanted in the frame.

Avoid glare - If you find the perfect position to take your shot, but you can't see the screen because of reflection, you can adjust the tilt screen to eliminate glare. It can also help to shield the screen with your hand when shooting in bright situations, too.

In crowded situations - When you're at a gig or concert, a tilt screen can allow you to see what's going on when you hold the camera above your head, allowing you to get that great shot of a favourite band or act. It can also help you to frame the shot when you can't see what's going on far in front of you.

Shooting from the hip - A tiltable screen can allow you to shoot incognito and still see what you are shooting by tilting the screen upwards when shooting from the hip. This technique is ideal for candid street photography when you don't want your subject to be aware you're shooting them.

Working with a tripod - When you're working with a tripod and it's not quite up at eye level, or it's higher than eye level, a tiltable screen will be invaluable in helping you to see the exact image the camera will capture.

Taking self portraits - The K-S2's screen rotates so you can see it from the front of the camera, and this ideal for framing yourself when taking self portraits or making sure certain background elements are/are not included in the shot.
