On Saturday 4 March 2017, Park Cameras held a Canon lens day at their store in Burgess Hill where every current Canon EF lens was available for customers to try out. However, the main draw was the extremely rare Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6L USM lens!
Lenses on display ranged from the small and compact EF-M lenses from Canon’s mirrorless range, right up to super telephoto lenses including the EF 600mm f/4.0L USM IS Mark II and the EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM. Customers were encouraged to try these lenses out, either on their own bodies or on cameras supplied by Park Cameras to get an idea of what they can achieve. Technical experts from Park Cameras and Canon UK were also on-hand to offer plenty of help and advice so that customers could choose the best lens for their needs.
One customer visiting on the day said: "It really is great to have every lens available all in one place, as it really helps to get an idea of size and scale, as well as to get an instant comparison between what different lenses can achieve."
Customers visiting on the day were also treated to a range of seminars from professional photographer David Newton. David spoke about the various types of lenses available and how they could benefit different types of photography, going into detail about the best lenses for shooting video and Tilt-Shift lenses. After each session, the feedback from the customers was very positive, with many customers coming from some distance to be able to learn more from David.
Even with all of this going off on the day, the presence of the legendary Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6L USM lens which customers could have their photo taken with, as a souvenir of the day.
Speaking of the lens, store manager Chris Reszke said: "With numbers of the 1200mm that exist worldwide uncertain, not only does it make the lens priceless, it was also a great privilege to have this lens in our store for customers to get up close to, and something that I will never forget, and that I hope our customers don’t forget either. And yes, I did touch it, but didn’t dare try and lift it!"
