The premium photo lab WhiteWall based in Frechen near Cologne has created an inspiring new Design Edition of picture frames in collaboration with Studio Besau-Marguerre. The design studio in Hamburg has developed three editions featuring three different colour schemes in yellow, purple and green. The results: frames with four different coloured borders from one colour family with a fixed colour placement. The Design Edition will be produced at WhiteWall's in-house frame production facility in Frechen, where it is possible to order your own photographs in frames in the format of your choice. The Design Edition is available for the "Hamburg, 20mm" frame and in various product configurations - for example as a lamination set behind acrylic glass or as a classic matted frame. Beautiful gallery-quality works featuring your own photographs in a special frame can be created from the diverse range of WhiteWall products.
"We are delighted to be collaborating with two renowned designers with such vast expertise and experience, not to mention absolute top players in the design industry. With the new Design Edition by Studio Besau-Marguerre, we are giving photographs a special place. Because there is a very special synergy between photography and design - the two fields belong together and enhance each other. We are absolutely captivated by the frames created by Studio Besau-Marguerre, in particular, the colour gradient achieved through the differently coloured borders. This allows us to offer our customers new options for designing rooms with their own photos, because the play of colours opens up new horizons in photography," Alexander Nieswandt, Founder and Managing Director of WhiteWall.
Nowadays, frames are products that tend to remain in the background in our mind's eye; a picture or a photograph is framed and presented on a raised platform. "In the Design Edition for WhiteWall, the frame is intended to become the hero, a special piece that engages in an exciting dialogue with the photograph," explains designer duo Eva Marguerre and Marcel Besau from Hamburg. As early as the Gothic period, frames established themselves as works of art in their own right. In those days, frames were often constructed before it was known which work of art would find a home within its borders. The fact that the signature or initials of the frame maker were always included on the picture in addition to those of the painter proves the high-value frames held at that time. "With this frame collection, we are bringing this concept back into a contemporary context."
The Design Edition is a collection of three different frames with a green, yellow and purple colour scheme. Each frame consists of four different shades within this colour scheme, so each border has a different colour. This creates a strong dynamic between the frame and the image. The gaze of the viewer is directed in an exciting way and the frame starts to come to "life". Yet the frames remain inherently neutral, as all the colours come from a single colour palette. The refreshing colours of the new frames are perfect for personalizing the home and brightening up spaces with gallery-quality wall art, especially after the winter months.
The Design Edition will be available in WhiteWall stores and online starting today (1 February 2023).
