
Basically, firmware is the way that manufacturers update features and upgrade the software on cameras. In the camera settings menu, you should be able to find the firmware version you're currently running so that you can compare to see if a newer version is available for your camera.
Olympus firmware updates can be found on the Downloads page - simply use the drop-down menus to select your camera model, and you'll be able to see if there is new firmware, and what improvements it will bring. Below is a current example for the E-M1.

Olympus has a firmware instructions page on their website too, so if you're unsure of the process, pay this a visit and it will guide you through the process step by step. It's at the bottom of the firmware details, as illustrated in the screenshot above.
