The CG277 monitor is one of the newest monitors to join the superb ColorEdge range created by EIZO - the only company solely dedicated to the design and development of computer monitors, engineered and created exactly to the demanding requirements of the professional user. The ColorEdge range is an impressive collection of colour management monitors which are perfect for 'entry level to professional creators'. The range has received plenty of praise from professionals in the photographic industry and even though the CG277 display is rather new to the group, it's not lacking complements from users either. In fact, the CG277 impressed professional photographer Tigz Rice so much when on trail from EIZO that she purchased one: "All in all, I loved the EIZO monitor so much I couldn’t bear to give it back. So I bought it. It has pride of place on my desk in the studio and it's not going anywhere!" said Tigz in a July blog post

Top Reasons For Its Praise

By taking a quick look at the EIZO CG277 specifications it's easy to see why professional photographers find the CG277 so appealing. For a start, it offers a wide field of view thanks to the expansive 27" screen design and users won't be disappointed with its 2560 × 1440 resolution either. A built-in calibration sensor makes colour management a breeze and as the CG277 is capable of reproducing 99% of Adobe RGB colour space, images shot in RAW can be converted to Adobe RGB or images shot in Adobe RGB will be displayed correctly. DVI-D, DisplayPort, and HDMI inputs are included and the monitor comes with a versatile stand that offers height, tilt, and swivel adjustments as well as portrait mode display.

The CG277's matte screen and non-glare IPS Panel makes picture viewing and photo editing much more pleasing and accurate, plus the LED backlight reduces energy consumption by 40% compared to a conventional backlight. It is also mercury-free for less impact on the environment when it is eventually disposed of.

Work More Efficiently

To help photographers use their time better, the CG277 has a warm-up time of just 7 minutes compared to that of other monitors which can take as long as 30 minutes for brightness, chromaticity, and tone characteristics to stabilise. Plus, as the CG277 features a built-in SelfCalibration sensor, gone are the days when you had to set-up and wait for your screen to be calibrated manually. Also, by using the OSD menu or the bundled ColorNavigator software, you can schedule the monitor to self-calibrate at specific times. Even if the monitor is switched off or not connected to a computer, it will stick to its preset schedule and self-calibrate meaning you can time it to complete before you're sitting down at your desk.

Monitor Adjustments

Gone are the days of bad posture and hunched shoulders as the ergonomic stand can be adjusted to the most comfortable angle for you. Tilt it, lower or raise it or you can even switch the screen's angle completely to work in portrait mode when needed. Talking of portrait mode, did you know that the monitor hood that comes free with the CG277 is designed for portrait mode as well which means you can keep the glare off your screen no matter which mode you work in.

Other Key Features Of The CG277 Monitor:

  • Wide Colour Gamut - Ensures that the monitor reproduces almost the entire ISO-coated and US web-coated CMYK colour spaces used in printing as well as 93% of the DCI used in post production.
  • Brightness Modulation - EIZO uses PWM (pulse width modulation) technology to minimise flicker.
  • Uniformity From Corner To Corner - The monitor incorporates EIZO's patented digital uniformity equalizer (DUE) technology to ensure a Delta-E difference of 3 or less across the screen when the monitor leaves the factory.
  • 10-Bit Simultaneous Display - The monitor offers 10-bit simultaneous colour display (a graphics board and software which support 10-bit output are also necessary for 10-bit display) from a 16-bit look-up table which means it can show more than one billion colours simultaneously.
  • Preset Colour Modes - A button found on the front of the monitor gives users quick access to several boardcast-standard and reset colour modes.

5-Year Warranty

The RGB full pixel failure is zero for up to 12 months after date of purchase based on ISO 9241-307 (pixel failure class I) and the CG277 is backed by a manufacturer’s 5-year warranty that covers all components including the LCD panel. EIZO can do this because it manufactures its products at its own factories. This allows EIZO to keep close control over production quality and ensure that its monitors are built to last for 5 years.

The CG277 retails for around £1522.80 (inc VAT) and is available through various EIZO authorised retailers. For more information, visit the EIZO UK website.
