Xaomi gave debuted the 108-megapixel capable Mi Note 10, a penta (5-rear camera setup) camera smartphone capable of a single photo resolution of 12032x9024 pixels.
The Mi Note 10 uses the same camera setup as the Mi CC9 Pro premium, which was announced yesterday to the Chinese market. The camera setup on the rear consists of the following:
- 5MP f/2.0 OIS telephoto camera with 10x hybrid zooom, 50x digital zoom
- 12MP 2x optical zoom f/2 dual pixel autofocus camera
- 108MP ultra-high-resolution camera 1/1.33" super sensor, 7P, f/1.69, 4-axis OIS
- 20MP ultra wide-angle camera, 117-degrees field of view, f/2.2
- 2MP macro camera
There's a similar 108-megapixel capable setup in the Mi Mix Alpha, a quirky looking wrap around display camera announced in September.
Can it really produce 108-megapixel images?
The short answer is yes, but by using a software algorithm to remap pixels if there is enough light. Samsung's Isocell Plus sensor has been used, which is larger in size than other smartphone sensors, allowing it to capture more light thanks to larger pixels.
This helps to reduce noise in the images - a common problem in smartphone sensors that use smaller pixels which are crammed together, resulting in 'cross-talk' where the electrical activity of a pixel affects those around it, causing artifacts on the image.
Technically speaking, it's a 27-megapixel sensor, which can be used to create a 108-megapixel image through remapping.
The Mi Note 10 also features a 32-megapixel selfie camera, a 6.47" 3D curved AMOLED display, and a super-high capacity 5260mAh battery.
