A Show Of Hands is a book full of images of people's hands.
You might immediately think that this an odd port of the body to take images with. Usually we go for someone's face, or use the environment they're set in to tell a story about them. But when looking through this book you'll be surprised how much someone's hands say about their life.
Photographs of tradesmen and ordinary people's hands are mingled in with those of celebrities, including the likes of Jonny Wilkinson, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Alistair McGowan.
Each image of hands on a double page spread is accompanied by a short paragraph about their life and any distinctive features they have on their hands. There are also quotes from the models about their hands too. It's really amazing when you look at some of the hands, there is a stark reminder of the harsh things our hands are put through on a daily basis.
Hands are such an integral part in our daily life and yet we often neglect and pay little attention to them – when you stop and actually look at what they help us do in daily life, it's really quite amazing.
All the images are in black and white which makes you notice the textures and shapes of the hands more. In some ways, the hands say even more about the person than a face.
This is a unique idea and will make a fantastic coffee table book on an alternative and equally very interesting subject.
