Canon EOS 5D Mark III For Dummies claims to make everything easier for learning how to use a top of the range DSLR.

It is set out exactly like your old school text books, to make everything clear and easy to understand, with handy remember pointers clearly visible. This is a feature that could patronise some, but does work in terms of getting you to remember and be able to use your camera to the fullest of its abilities.

This book is clearly for a beginner at photography. How many beginners start off with a Canon 5D Mark III is an issue here, but you could be gifted one or splash out without really knowing how to use it properly, making this guide an ideal first guide.

The book starts at the very beginning, going through all the buttons on the camera and what they do, the different settings that can be applied to the camera, and of course how to change a lens properly, which will be essential knowledge for a complete novice, taken for granted by some. It looks at how you can clean the sensor, and also how to adjust the viewfinder so that everything is clear.

The book is very easy to follow and find what you need within it, due to the breakdown of what is in each chapter at the start of each one. This means that you can easily pick an area which you wish to learn about if you already have a partial knowledge of the camera.

The book is extremely detailed, with screenshots of what is on the screen of the camera to help you stay on the right track. The book is written by Robert Correll, who has also written a general guide to digital SLR photography for dummies. He is very good at putting terminology into layman's terms.

The book goes from the basics of photography with the Canon EOS 5D MK III to expressing your creativity with the camera, including how to make exposure and flash decisions and managing depth of field, to enable you to work independently and truly master the camera. It also looks at customising the camera to make it easier to use, and pulling all you've learned together to make stunning shots.

Overall, this book is a good guide to the Canon EOS 5D for a complete novice looking to get better at DSLR photography quickly. It could come across as a little patronising to anyone who knows a little about photography already, but once you get down to the information in the book, it is all top class and will definitely help you to take better photos with your camera.
