Landscape Photography: Art and Techniques is a well set out book by Neil Creighton, who has 40 years experience in photography.
The book first goes through the difference between photojournalism and art photography, and the pros and cons of using film over digital, before going on to discuss your camera. Creighton looks at the difference between the kinds of cameras, and what kind is best for different types of landscape photography. He also looks at all the different equipment you might need for a day out on the shoot, before going on to look at the types of lenses that are available and the different effects that they will produce.
Creighton is very good at getting you to think out of the box, and look closer at the area surrounding you to get great shots rather then going out of your way to find different places. The way you take an image can alter the way it looks to people, often in a good way. He reminds us that different seasons bring different photographic opportunities, so it is important to look for possible images in a location all the year round.
The book goes on to look at many aspects of landscape photography that are important, such as lighting and depth, and the viewpoint and atmosphere of your shooting. Also looked at in detail is composition, another fundamental aspect of landscape photography.
As well as giving you the tools, the book also teaches you handy hints and tips about determining whether a shot will make a good landscape image or not, and how using motion can add another element to your image. It also looks at popular locations for landscapes in more detail, such as the coast.
Landscape Photography: Art and Techniques is a helpful and easy to understand book that will help any level of landscape photographer to get ideas and take better shots. With just the right balance of technical information and tips for finding that great location, this book has everything you could want in a landscape photography book.
