Step By Step Lighting for Studio Portrait Photography is a well set out and easy to follow title that guides you through the world of studio portrait lighting and how to best achieve the look you're going for.
Author Jeff Smith encourages you to learn from what you know and not to rely on set styles too much, the aim here is to create your own. The book begins with learning lighting and learning to previsualise the image you're going for.
It then moves on to achieving what the client wants, and picking the right styles for the shoot before moving on to camera settings.
Aperture, shutter speed, white balance and file format are looked at before the book moves on to the actual lights themselves. Looked at in detail are all aspects of lighting, from diffusers and modifiers to beauty dishes, ring lights and strip lights.
Each section covers how and when each piece of equipment can be used to create a great looking image. Not only does the book include loads of images of the overall results, but also behind the scenes images and setup diagrams, to help you achieve the look yourself.
Lastly, the book looks at the types of lighting and how they can be used to flatter and accentuate different parts of the body.
Overall, this title is very comprehensive and will no doubt help anyone looking to learn more about studio portrait photography, whether you're a beginner or slightly more knowledgeable.
