Visual Flow: Mastering the Art of Composition is an eBook all about how to compose your photos so that they are pleasing to the eye.

Author Ian Plant is a well known and renowned wildlife and landscape photographer, and this eBook features his work in abundance along with that of fellow landscape photographer George Stocking, who has captured some stunning images.

The book begins with a brief introduction to composition theory, and how a lot of photographic composition theory can trace its roots back to the rules of painting. The masters of painting had to put a lot more thought into an image and how to compose it correctly, and so they are a key point to draw from even today, explains Ian.

Composition is a subject that is very open to interpretation, and as such Ian tries to get us to understand the theory whilst still encouraging us to use the rules to our advantage and manipulate them. The rules flow from good composition, not the other way around, explains Ian.

Visual flow is covered, and the book uses diagrams of the basic shapes used in creating compositions imposed upon images, to help us to see how the eye is drawn through the image. A good composition will somehow lead the eye through the image, taking in all the important bits.

Different types of image will require different techniques, and the book is good at covering different types of techniques, as well as comparing the different composition techniques to famous paintings that employed the same idea.

Depth is also covered, looking at how you can give your image more depth, create the illusion of depth or use forced perspective to gain a certain effect. Use of space within images is also looked at, along with the visual grouping of elements to make the shot more pleasing to the eye.

Overall, the eBook goes into great depths about composition methods and theory. It is ideal if you're looking to learning more about the traditional ideas behind composition, and how they can still be implemented into modern day photos, to great effect.

'Visual Flow' is available from Ian's website for $24.95.
