The main upload wins for me and it's delightful. The version would work better with less space on the left (space behind backs is usually wasted space... ), and more on the right.

As an individual image, the lead, just.

But as a pair, they are more than the sum of the two. He's intent, and interested in the results, not just clicking away blindly.

Why not put them side by side as a diptych?
