There are only so many images of Venice the world needs to see before The Serene Republic
would sink under the virtual weight of these unnecessary uploaded files.
Over the years on my visits to Venice, I noticed rubbish/trash/waste all over the place and decided to record as much as I could.
All photos in the series were photographed as I found the objects except for one when I had to turn a bottle to make the label visible for aesthetic purposes.
This photo was where it all started and the seed was sown. On 24 January 2005, I visited the island of San Michele to pay my respects (not for the first or last time) to two of my heroes and influences, Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Diaghilev. Both are buried in the Orthodox section of the island. As I was walking around I saw the grave digger's spade leaning against one of the private sepulchres and the remnants of some floral tribute.
