The Mystery of The Hedgerow

By Fefe
I am not really a flower in mono kind of person, I would nearly always go for colour ...but this is not a flower ...yet?
To be quite honest I have no idea what it is, I have never seen this before and it felt really strange too.
It was really strong and bendy, a bit like cable for lamps or electrical appliances and the leaves were strong and glossy looking.
Anyhow, I only really took the image because I was fascinated by it, the background is more foliage in the hedgerow where I saw it (grounds of Fountains Abbey) but the bg is not the same plant. ( not that it really matters as you cant tell what it is anyway.....but this was the only one stem....and it was long.
Colour in the version and uncropped so you can see some more, interested to know what it is and what it will be when it grows up, down or across ..........I hope its not a really common plant that I have seen a thousand times before, I would be so disappointed 😂😂😂
Apologies for all the yadda 🙄
I hope you like it, please view large.

Thank you all for yesterdays response to The church at Studley. Really appreciated!

Both are essentially mono images (One B&W the other green mono) I like the lovely rich greens in the version, so this cropped identically to the lead would get my vote as well.
As it is I'll go for the B&W.

In the scary woods near where we live there are many vines---fascinating to look at and photograph--This has been done so well-- with many choices and Mono seemed the best

I hate to say it, but as near as I can get is Japanese Knotweed Reynutria japonica, definitely not something you would want in your garden

Hs to be the cropped mono version, Diane. It wants to be in black and white when it grows up, but it just doesn't know it yet.Wink

Black bryony. Better not to eat the berries, a tad poisonous!

I guess you didn't know whether to crop it or prune it, Diane. Wink
However; it's all about the mono and the colour version doesn't even get a look in as far as I'm concerned.
A magnificent mystery mono image, and very interesting subject matter.

I took a pic of the colour version using the GardenSnap app on my iPhone, and it identifies it as Dioscorea communis, to give it its proper name, or you can take your pick from black bryony, black bindweed, or lady's seal, and produces poisonous red berries - so Dave (Jasper 87) is correct!! 👍🏻
Anyway, as good as it looks in colour, I'm rather favouring mono, Diane 😃👍🏻
