Although we've selected the top four images, there are just two prizes this month for 1st and 2nd place. The theme of emotions means something to everyone, whether it's a sad moment or one of elation. This ensured a high number of entries and a wide selection of emotions
The winning image looks at one of the most emotional aspects of our life - the loss of a job. In this shot the choice of black & white suits the subject perfectly and the expression reflects a highly poignant aspect of life. Technically this is a very well converted image, gritty like the occupation and with a superb position of the subject in the frame with careful control of depth-of-field to ensure the background is out of focus.
The second image focuses on the childhood aspect of bullying and conveys this incredibly well. You can't help feeling this is a real scene and not something that has been acted out. An extremely powerful image.
Third place is a strong mono image showing the trials and tribulations of young romance. Sad and very well spotted and framed. Again mono has worked well here to focus our attention totally on the emotion.
Fourth place is a wonderfully happy autumn scene capturing the leaves in perfect mid flow. The joyous face of the girl shows us that element of childhood that often disappears with adulthood. Another strong placement of subject and delivery of competent technical skill to ensure a balanced composition.
Well done everyone, and thanks for being patient with the hiccups and the slower speed we got around to judging this one.
