We have five winners this month who will each receive a Nikon COOLPIX S6200 camera.
And the five winners, in no particular order, are cassiecat, homewurks, sk8mk, Coleslaw and MattT.
The competition saw just under 1000 entries, demonstrating our members' ability to capture photos of the dark, from remote star filled landscapes to urban street lit alleys. We had cold, scary, shadows, moody, emotional - all with a dark edge.
The chosen winning five images and short-list gives a taster of your varied interpretation of the theme.
We liked the atmosphere in cassiecat's steam shot, taken of several engines with their smoke illuminated by the tungsten lighting. You can almost smell and hear the sounds in this impact filled shot. homewurks created a kaleidoscope style image using a silhouette at a bonfire, which was very clever and graphical. sk8mk's cyber-bullying was a brilliantly executed emotional shot - dark in tone and context. The portrait from Coleslaw is a great spin on the theme, from darkness comes light. A strong composition, with superb tonal range, showing skill in exposure and subject balance. MattT's shot is an almost voyeuristic view of dancers. We like the shaft of light picking them up from the dark, to give an appearance of stage lighting wih the ambience of a moody street scene.
Well done everyone.
