Hurdles (or wattles in some parts) are made from coppiced hazel stems. A truly sustainable form of fencing. The uprights are put into a jig and then the split stems are woven horizontally through them. The secret to their strength and longevity lies in this technique of twisting the wood and turning it back on itself. This requires strong wrists!
