This is definitely better Val. He stands out well and doesn't appear to be part of the background. A fine image of this lovely bird. The frost is more recognisable too.

I've tried a mod. from your original colour shot (via a screen grab).....but somewhere down the line, the quality
has taken a nosedive.......so disregard it.....it's 'orrible !!!!!!!!!!!......can't see how to delete it from my end ??

My intention was to achieve a lower contrast image, with less sharpening...but it's rubbish !, mine not yours !!!.Sad

This looks better, Val, but you say you're still not happy with it.
Can I suggest that it may be the composition? If I'm wrong, just tell me to go awayTongue.
The owl's body is facing to the left, but he is looking to the right. You have him placed on the right.
So I have tried two modifications. In the first, I cropped the left and added canvas to the right, placing him almost central. In the second, I cropped the left and added even more canvas to the right, giving more space on the side into which he is looking. I also simply enhanced the little bright highlights in his eyes. See what you think.
Pamela.

Thanks Pamela I think you could be onto something - I love what you have done in the mods. Will have another play with this and see where I get.
