This programme offers you a unique opportunity to create an impact through photo-based imagery, and is aimed at those who have experience of photographic media in the broadest sense. You will also be encouraged to use your creative practice to explore issues that are of importance to you. Photography: Critical Practice draws on wide expertise to enable you to define your ideas and develop your skills during a period of concentrated study. Application is by project proposal, and the emphasis of the programme is on providing the practical and theoretical knowledge necessary for the successful completion of your project. Such projects might consider social, environmental or cultural issues. Collaborative projects which might involve students from other programmes of study or external agencies, will be encouraged. The resulting body of images will reflect the aims and intentions of each individual project. Appropriate forms of presentation could include a gallery or community exhibition, publication, Web site or site-specific installation. In addition to a significant body of photo-based work, you will also produce a written critical analysis, reflecting upon the social and cultural context of the images, as well as a professional report. These outcomes are intended to extend your understanding of photography as a medium and to enable future career progression.
