The society was founded in 1923 and currently has about 85 members. The varied programme offers lectures, audio-visual presentations, and demonstrations on a wide range of photographic topics, including digital imaging. Regular competitions are held, both internal and external as part of the Southern Photographic Federation and a major annual exhibition is held in the Guildhall Gallery, Winchester. The society also offers regular outings of photographic interest and aims to encourage and promote the enjoyment of photography.
