The F6 is the sixth in the F series lineup, inaugurated with the Nikon F in 1959. The camera includes the latest Nikon advances, such as the 11-area AF system for exceptionally high-speed autofocus operation with outstanding accuracy, and the Creative Lighting System for incomparable flash photography. At the top of Yashica's current range, sits this medium sized 35mm compact that, once again, keeps everything very simple - just right for those venturing into the realms of picture taking, but want to dive in for one with a big zoom! Switching the unit on, zooming and taking the shot, could not be much simpler. Often comes packaged with, not only case, strap and film, but a mini-tripod as well - wow!

Yashica Zoomate 80
This is a very popular camera that uses simplicity of use as its major selling point - controls are few and far between, namely on, flash modes and self-timer. To be honest there's not much else you need at this level, and with a well contoured body, sturdy casing and easy loading, its got a lot going for it. As a real bonus it uses AA batteries to power it, so it's cheap to run!

Yashica Zoomate 115
This Yashica is base on its smaller sibling, the popular Zoomate 80, but increases the zoom range to 115mm which will really make a difference to some of those portraits of the family - the slightly longer zoom tends to flatten perspective, and give a more natural look to people pics. The rest of the camera is fairly standard, but continues the well-made and easy to use trend of current Yashicas.

Samsung VEGA 140s
Nominated 'Camera of the Year' a couple of years ago, it's easy to see why, once you've seen the results. The highlight of this well specified camera is, without doubt the German lens, produced by Schneider, which is a corker. A host of advanced features are available, as described in the voluminous instruction book, some of which the novice can overlook, but it's those fine optics that produce at this level.

Samsung VEGA 170s
Besides Pentax, it is Samsung that have ventured into the larger zoom lens range, to produce this mighty 38-170mm optic. The lens has been produced in association with Schneider of Germany, so there are plenty of fine photos to be had. However as the long end of the zoom is 170mm be especially careful to hold the camera steady, to avoid blurred pictures. Again the feature list is endless. Size of the camera itself isn't bad either, for this level.

Samsung VEGA 77i
Samsung have carried on their highly specified range of compacts, with this 35mm offering. The 35-70mm lens range is fairly standard, but at this level also includes date facility, infinity focus, long time exposure, portrait mode etc. The casing quality doesn't cut the mustard in the solidity stakes, but the bells and whistles make up for it. The function dial is a bit fiddly to operate, and requires the instruction manual for a while, until you know what you are doing.
