Rating:We thought the Canon 5D Mark II was never going to be as big a deal as its predecessor, the now classic, 5D Mark I which allowed a whole generation of digital photographers the use of a full frame DSLR at a price that they could (just) afford. But actually it has been a benchmark camera in a few different ways. The low noise at high ISO has meant amateurs and professionals alike have been leaving tripods at home and getting great results in situations where flash would have previously been the only option. One of the big surprises is the video capability of the 5D Mark II which has now reached cult status, the camera now being the fashionable tool for shooting everything from drama to documentaries. Where the 5D still falls down slightly is it's focusing in low-light and (stills) frame rate. The 5D Mark II still provides excellent value for money for all photographers and wonderfully smooth and toned full frame images.
