V-Lux 3

Rating: no rating

Heading up the super-zoom compact digital camera range, Leica is pleased to introduce a new addition to the multiple award winning V-Lux range of cameras – the V-Lux 3. An eminently worthy addition to the series, the V-Lux 3 boasts a 25mm ultra wide angle, powerful 24x optical LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens with Leica’s Black Box Nano Surface Coating technology to minimize light reflection that causes ghosts and flares. Picture perfect – the V-Lux 3 can also record high-resolution full-HD 1920 x 1080 50p videos for those users looking for high picture quality of both photo and video.

Packing a powerful zoom lens, high performance imaging devices, a host of functions and manual control in a compact body, the V-Lux 3 is highly versatile – perfect for advanced amateur photographers with its high quality photo and video.

Based on the Panasonic Lumix FZ150.

Have only owned this camera for a few days but already it has changed the way i approach photography in general.

After using a Canon 350D since they came out in 2005, the V-Lux 3 feels like a far more advanced machine than i am used to, and i thought it might feel a bit alien to me but i need not have worried!

At 12MP, with a super duper wide angle zoom which gets incredibly close to subjects, as close as 1 centimetre in fact, this is a camera which performs incredibly well in most situations.

There are various settings in the Mode Dial, with the usual manual control, shutter values, auto mode and scene modes, but there is also a Creative mode there, which works very well indeed, with live results even before the shutter is pressed, s you can see exactly what you are getting.

It was a bit of a gamble moving away from the flexibility of a DSLR to the complexity of a compact camera such as the Leica, even within days of owning it i just know i am going to get so much out of it, and relaxing now and then while the camera deals with the settings for a change when i switch from manual to scene or creative mode.

My poor old 350D now looks to be a bit of a dinosaur next to the V-Lux 3, but camera's have moved on a bit since 2005, and now is the perfect time to step away from the world of DSLR's, for me at least :)
