AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G

Rating: 4.5 out of 54.5 out of 54.5 out of 54.5 out of 54.5 out of 54.5 out of 5

Manufacturer's Description:

"A convenient standard zoom lens with high quality optics, a high zoom ratio and good cost performance for use with the Nikon DX Format Digital SLRs. With an ample 18-70mm zoom range that is equivalent to a 27-105mm lens in 35mm format, this lens offers maximum versatility to accommodate tight portraits or expansive landscapes. Optical performance is augmented through the incorporation of 3 ED glass elements and 1 composite aspherical lens that together provide appropriate compensation for aberrations. Through the adoption of an SWM (Silent Wave Motor), the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED enables swift, silent AF (Auto Focus) performance with the AF systems of the Nikon Digital SLR's."

great little wide angle lens with a modicum of zoom. Good quality results

This a very under-rated lens in optical quality terms. It is superb.

As far as I'm aware this lens first shipped as the standard 'kit' lens with the D70 way back when - and of ALL my Nikkors, this the last one I would part with. From a focal-length perspective it is almost unique; wide enough to be eminently useful as a wide-angle lens as well as a portrait lens (it's DX format remember ;)) and a short telephoto to boot.

There is a tendency to 'pooh-pooh' kit lenses but, this shipped when the concept was new - and Nikon did not 'stint' on the quality.

I cannot recommend this lens enough.

Buy it. You will NOT be disappointed.
