The Pentax K-01 is the only mirrorless camera to accept the same lenses as the Pentax K mount Digital SLR series. Joshua Waller finds out how it performs in our full review.
Sample photos from the new 16 megapixel Pentax K-01, the only mirrorless camera to take SLR lenses directly.
We go hands on with the new Pentax K-01 - the latest mirrorless camera from Pentax, designed by Marc Newson and give our initial impressions.
It's bigger and heavier than my Micro Four-Thirds cameras (Panasonic GH1, GH2, and GF2) but takes much better photos. It fits in bags that my Pentax K-5 struggles to squeeze into. Works great with the Pentax DA Limited prime lenses that I have - DA21mm F3.2, DA35mm F2.8 Macro, DA40mm F2.8, DA70mm F2.4.
Problem is, it's a bit slow when taking DNG RAW files. 1 FPS Doesn't work well with my candid/photojournalist style. But switch over to JPG and it flies. AF is not quite as fast as a DLSR, but close. Focus Peaking is great for macro work.
Video is a step forward for Pentax, with full manual control, but it still lags behind the GH2 in usability and IQ. Good enough for casual use perhaps, but not for seriously paying work.
I'm blogging about my experiences with the camera: What Blog is This?
