Stephen Waller puts the latest Plustek Opticfilm 8100 35mm Film Scanner to the test, to see how it performs with the latest version of SilverFast.
After over a week, I'm still struggling to get to grips with this product.
Installation was far from easy, and the scanner is very difficult to use. The documentation is translated directly from German, and no effort has been made to turn it into readable English and key information is neither available in the booklet supplied nor on-line. For example, a basic question: which setting is best to use to get the best scan and subsequently edit it in Photoshop? Logic suggests that the "Photoshop" setting should be used; reality suggests otherwise. And the answer? I really don't know.
As for the quality of the final scan ...well, I've yet to find to make one.
