Manufacturer's Description:

"Zoom lens that designed to suit the characteristics of digital cameras

Exclusively designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras. The image circle was designed to match the size of the image sensors of most digital SLR cameras and this has resulted in a compact lightweight lens. The use of aspherical lenses provides correction for various aberrations and makes high quality images a reality throughout the entire zoom range."

I have this lens in a Sigma SA mount version. It focuses very quickly, and from what I can tell it is very sharp. I do not normally use it at wide apertures, and when I do I am hand-holding at very slow shutter speeds, so I could not tell you if it is sharp at wide apertures. I really like the results I get at f8 and f11. I bought it used very cheap. The quality and feel is superior to my Canon 50mm f1.4 that I bought for my 5 D, and which is often touted as an excellent lens. That lens cost me about $350 new, if I remember. I think this lens just might be superior to any of the 18-55mm lenses from other manufacturers, such as Nikon (I had their VR version) or Canon. As far as sharpness and distortion is concerned, I have not done scientific testing, but both seem good, and I have not noticed any CA. The color rendition seems excellent, and the lens function is excellent. I do wish it was an OS lens, but I did not pay a high price, and most of the time I do not need that.
