Macroflash 5000

Budget priced ringflash that screws onto the front of your lens using a series VII ring - same as Centon Macro Ringflash MR20 and Starblitz 1000-Auto Macro-Lite.

I've always fancied a ring flash for macro but never found one in my price bracket until now.
Built in 1989 for film cameras, this unit is very basic, but adapts well to digital use.
I'm using it on a Sony A100 with a Cosina 100/3.5 macro lens (so as you can see I have all ancient stock) I tried working to the manual but everything is over exposed, the only way to go is with the camera on full manual setting to F18 or above and a shutter speed of around 125 iso 100.
The flash is a true flash and has an automatic setting which should power the flash down if required (yet to be seen). Attaching to the lens via the VII ring, it is not in the way and although the battery pack containing two AA batteries makes up the unit, weight is not an issue.
Results from the unit on trial subjects so far are pleasing and I have no regrets in purchasing it. Certainly an improvement on the led ring light I have been using previously.
For the price paid I think it's a worthwhile addition to my kit.
