Celebrating the upcoming 30th anniversary of the motion picture 'Pink Floyd: The Wall', stills photographer David Appleby and Tara Renee of Silverbase honour the fans of the acclaimed visual rock masterpiece, with an exhibition of stunning behind-the-scenes images taken during the production of 'The Wall'.
The exhibition will feature never before seen images along with David’s most classic iconic photographs that have become famously associated with the film, the music and in popular culture.
Over 40 Black and White images will be showcased, traditionally hand printed on silver gelatin paper from the original negatives and dish processed by Tara Renee of Silverbase at Film Solutions Photographic Centre Pinewood Studios.
ILFORD PHOTO is lending support by supplying ILFORD MULTIGRADE FB FIBER silver gelatin paper, which Tara is using as her preferred choice paper. ‘ILFORD have just been amazing. I approached them for this exhibition on account that they truly know Black and White on a technical level, and they whole heartedly appreciate the craft and understand how critical a role traditional processes still play in this digital age.’
Steven Brierley, Director of Sales and Marketing at HARMAN technology Limited, said, “It's not often a request comes across your desk which takes you back to your time in the 6th Form where music and girls seemed to be your main preoccupations. So when a sponsorship request came in from Silverbase to assist with materials to print a unique exhibition of images created during the filming of the film Pink Floyd - The Wall happy thoughts came to mind, and supporting such a worthy endeavour was essential. Meeting Tara Renee at Pinewood Studios to see those iconic images from the film, which she had hand crafted from demanding negatives shot whilst the film was made under intense film set lighting, was a real treat for a Floyd fan.”
David Appleby remembers the occasion, saying “The story and the visual of the film is so powerful that for me it was a wonderful challenge to create still pictures that best represent the movie and its atmosphere. It’s a never-ending amazing experience for me to see how something I photographed 30 years ago still carries the same impact two, three generations on.”
The Wall Retrospective Exhibition will launch the 12th of July 2012 at Blackalls Studios in Shoreditch, London with a Private View and will include a charity fundraising for ‘Medicinema’. The exhibition will be open to the public from July 13th to the 18th, 2012.
The exhibition is sponsored by TCM (Turner Classic Movies), a dedicated UK film channel and home of contemporary and classic favourites. ‘Pink Floyd: The Wall’ will air on TCM on Saturday 14th July at 9pm; the day marks the 30 year anniversary.
