I can agree with that, re why focus is frequently wrong. Interestingly Thom Hogan has spoken on these lenses, and reckons the Sigma has the better (read faster) AF performance.

Got my sigma 50mm, just set it up. It was 18mm forward focusing so the 1D only just managed to correct it, on a camera that had no adjustable AF you would have problems. The lense feels well made and pics look good so far, will be testing it more in Spain over the next week.
