You can't. As an single lens reflex camera the image is reflected to the viewfinder until the internal mirror snaps out of the way when the photo is actually taken, letting the image fall on the sensor.

On digital compacts and prosumers you can compose using the LCD screen. With one exception, on DSLRs you can't. Your Canon 350D is not that exception!

Taking the lens cap off is a big help.

David the 350D operates in a similar manner to your EOS 1000, so you won't find too much difficulty in finding your way around it, good luck

In other words he wants to use the LCD screen the way a compact works. So having the cap on or off is immaterial as a DSLR doesn't work that way.

Er, no camera of any sort works with the lens cap on - to my knowledge! Grin

he he, being a bit silly here, but....

dont all cameras work with the lens caps on, its just that the photographs wont expose? They still switch on, they still operate the shutter, and all the buttons work etc. So to say they dont work is not quite right.

Totally agree that to get the image, you need to remove the lens cap though.

Silly bit off.
