400gsm at home (!?)

In that I'm having serious problems getting anyone to give me a quote for card printing on 400gsm (for example) art stock I'm starting to contemplate actually buying my own printer. On first inspection it seems that a colour laser jet may be the right choice but I was wondering if anyone on here has already travelled the road I've just turned onto and would consider lending a follow traveller some advice. Opinions greatly appreciated

How many do you want to produce ? A quick Google finds WhiteSpark Promotions , who will print just 250 (400gsm). Simply Design and Print will do just 100 (but its only 300gsm).

Thanks again John.
I've been trying to get quotes for a run of 100 each of 20 designs, artwork supplied by me, and while superficially a run of over 2000 impressions appears worthwhile because it's actually 20 runs of 100 impressions it seems that the overheads don't actually make it worth their while. I can understand this but it's really not helpful for startups to be having to sink a couple of grand into what is after all a slow moving product. You have to be absolutely dead certain that they're going to sell, which is why I'd prefer to make batches of 100 and keep the sunk cost to less than £1000 at this stage.

Quote:A friend of mine owns a printing company and hes just installed a digital machine.
Like the last post asked....how many? what size? will you need cutting facilities after?
Dave, I'd like to end up with a finished card, creased. I'm happy to source the envelopes and bags. I've already got suppliers for them.
Chris

I print my own cards, I tried every paper in the world up to 330 gsm, which is still not thick enough, so I put a card insert inside which keeps it stiff and seems to work well. I have only found 1 printing company who will do small print runs, but then the cost goes up, will be very interested if you can find one
