5D - Mirror fallen off!!!

10 Apr 2008 1:21AM
Can anyone help regarding glueing/sticking/applying the mirror back on?? Is it simple?? Special glue required?? Etc Etc...please advise.

Its a body that i've been given so im not intending to spend out by going to a dealer...it cost nothing so no big issues on this!

Thanks
Ian

It'll cost you a fortune for that special glue... best send it to me.... Wink

Seriously, I can't see it being much more than a high quality contact adhesive, but spread as a bloomin' thin layer!

My thoughts exactly - have it done professionally, and you're still at a big advantage.

it seems to be an issue with the 5D; plenty of pro togs have reported the problem, you may well find that Canon will fix it FOC if it is a known issue even outside the warranty period.

Don't bodge it. Get it done properly, it's a proper camera so treat it properly.

Pushing 2000, if that was a car and the exhaust fell off, you would be annoyed.

Send it and get it repaired, even if you manage to glue it, you need to have it calibrated for the auto focus to work properly.
You can always use Blu-Tack and guess the focus tho Smile

I glued the mirror back on my 300D with a double sided tape. If it is the main mirror then it should not affect AF as it is a pass through to the secondary mirror. Well I think it is correct.

When I checked with Canon their service centre would just replace the complete mirror assembly, so have a chat with them and if its true, have a go, and if it fails its no difference to the repair cost etc. Do wear gloves to stop you getting sweat etc on the mirror.

I have heard that this 5D mirror fall out is like the Ring...
