is the 5d still worth buying or would it be better to go for 40d with wide lens which would work out about same price

I have a 30D at present, if and only if, I wanted to upgrade I would go for the 5D- full frame etc.

Having owned a 5D since it first came out, but not having seen a 40D yet, I would say...

depends what you want to do with it.

The 5D is the poor man's 1Ds

The 40D is the poor man's 1D

He means it costs less. i.e its what those of us without deep pockets or the desire to live in poverty would get it instead Smile

I think Big Bri hit it on the head re choices.

5D for me.
I don't really follow the "is it still worth buying a 5D" question. As Bri says, it depends what you want to do with it.
Looking at the PF, 5D.
Wide angle lenses really are.
File size bigger.
Big viewfinder instead of a pointless built in flash.

(I like having no flash, when people ask you to stop using flash, you can show you weren't, and they do feel silly)

Whilst release of the 40d was expected, it will have caused a degree of consternation amongst 30d owners looking to upgrade to the 5d. I expect also that introduction of the 40d will effectively reduce the 30d's value?
Canon are a cute bunch - they've muddied the waters between the 30d (now obsolete?), the 5d and the 1ds mk whatever. My initial reaction was that the 40d would be my next step, but having slept on it - oh yes, and reading this thread Smile - I ain't so sure.
