What would the traditional wedding photographers think of this - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-asia-india-49071912 Are wedding photography and location fashion photography overlapping?

I'm not sure that I could describe that as wedding photography; more a couple grasping at straws to make some kind of impression on social media and using their wedding as a excuse.

Sad, I know but if you're that desperate . . .

I rather like it, bit different. Wedding photography has changed alot over the years, everyone wants something to remember so fair play to them.

I rather liked it tool. It's their day, their money, good luck to them. As for the wanting to go viral, I have never really understood 'social media', and the thinking that other people will be interested.

Eastern countries have more of a tradition of doing the main wedding shoot in the days before the ceremony, and this couple and photographer are only trying to find something that is different to the thousands of other pre-wedding shoots that are already to be seen on SoMe - so ood for them for doing something new and innovative.

I'd prefer to hear that they were doing it for their own enjoyment, rather than their online following, wedding photos should be about the personal experience and memories. But the result is rather beautiful, and definitely different.
High-end wedding photography has been overlapping with fashion / location for years, just look at those stately home shoots.
This idea is not something for Northumberland in November though...

The idea of photoshoots in addition to the main event have been gaining popularity over the last deade or two, certainly where more money is available.
It's a welcome addition for photographers, especially where ideas and skills are required.
It's good they wnted a photographer and not rely on mobile phone snapper guests (though I'm sure that would suit most grooms) brides tend to be more discerning.
That's an interesting point you make Moira but I guess they are doing it for themselves but want something good they're happy to share.

I know there’s a bit of negativity to sharing on social media but the upside is that creativity is enhanced.

Far too much money wasted on weddings. We had to pay for our own wedding so it was very economical as we needed the funds for a house purchase and things to go in it. If people think that their future happiness is all about how much they spend on that one day, they have a lot to learn about life. My own daughter had a similar view and insisted on a very low cost wedding.

What would be a waste of money to one, may well be a case of money well-spent to others. It all depends on the couple's and family's wishes, priorities and willingness and ability to pay for what they desire.

It's all part of attention seeking with the current young(ish) generation. It's become like a drug. 🙄
