A new camera or a lens??

30 Jul 2007 2:28PM
Hi everyone

Im Thinking of buying a new camera or a new lens for the camera i already have. So looking for another point of view on this..

I got a Nikon D 50 that has 6.1 mega pixel, im looking for higher quality pictures overall. So should i buy a new lens that can zoom more than the 18-55 i have now? Or sell my current camera and buy a Nikon D 80 ? The Nikon D80 has 10.7 mega pixel and will not cost much more than if i buy the lens.

I guess im asking what would you guys do? hope you can help me

Best Regards

There's more to quality than megapixels. You'll probably see more improvement putting a decent lens on your D50 than by putting your existing lens on a D80.

I have a d50 at the moments and I was thinking along the same lines as you are and after printing out a few images at A3 I was very happy with the quality that the d50 delivers

After a bit of advice I made the decision to buy a new lens, Sigma 10-20 as it happens and a new tripod, as I believe they will be of a greater benifit to me than upgrading the camera. Even if I had upgraded the camera I still wouldn't have had the lens I wanted, or a sturdy tripod

Cheers, Sean
