Thanks for the link Keith... looking only very quickly there's a Fuji Finepix for around 180. Any good then do you reckon?

think Canon or Nikon.................. Can't go wrong.
Look at the Meadow Pipit in my portfolio...... Canon S5IS taken from about 20 yards

Thanks to everyone who's helped out tonight... the jury's still out I reckon. I guess I'll have to do a lot more reading about the different functions of various types of camera while saving up my pennies. I'll continue to have fun with my present P&S until I've decided for sure.
In the mean time, any other advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks again,
Rachel

Sorry Rach I was referring to what some call Bridge Cameras. Those with something in the range of 10X zooms.

Have a look at a Fuji 5800 for about 130 from Amazon. It's got a 10 x zoom, not too bulky and comes with a 2gig SD card.

Rachel,
you could get a Canon EOS 300D with 6 MP (and lens) for under 200. Alternatively, does it have to be digital?? I learnt on a Nikon FM2, lovely camera, still available s/h and within your budget (but you'll be spending on film of course). Whatever you end up getting have fun, and let us know.
Best wishes,
David

Many thanks to Dave, Eric, David and Paul. There's so much to think about, I'm not going to rush into anything... well, not just yet anyway Wink Will let you know when I've finally made my decision!
Further advice from anyone would still be much appreciated.
Thank you. Rachel
