its a bit late to post this question, and might sound a bit dumb, but my son has just shown be a bone that he found washed up on the beach, and he was wondering if anyone knows how we could find out where it might have come from.
its quite big, nine and a half inches wide, narrowing down gradually to eight then five then just over two and half inches wide then there appears to be a joint, if you turn it over it has a fin type piece to one side. Overall legth is fifteen inches, any ideas?
Its hard to imagine without a picture, i might see if i can take a picture tomorrow and see if i can link to it.

Don't tell me Maddie, you've brutally murdered someone, hiden them under the patio and are trying to pass off a shoulder blade found on the beach as a prehistoric artifact....

Might be a scapula (shoulderblade). It's sort of triangular shaped with a shallow cupped area at the narrow end and a small ridge or spine running lengthways down one side. I'll guess a deers or cows at that size.
