Not much use to Canon users but I have found in good light the Nikon 18-200mm is a great lens for photocalls.

With a SB800 on a flash bracket on either a D2X or D200 you can cope with pretty much anything. Although the AF isnt as quick at 200mm as a 70-200mm the fact you dont have to change cameras more than makes up for the slight loss of AF speed..... and 18-200 means you can move from shoes to nostril hair in the twist of a wrist

Cheers Boyd, perhaps when you've been using it for a week or two you wouldn't mind giving me a bit of a rundown on it?? Am really edging towards buying one. Although I'd still use my current lenses most of the time it would be useful on occasons like the other day.

Thanks, that'll help me decide and stop the dithering!
