Just wondered if anybody here uses Gumtree (for selling items ) .......doesn't seem to have any downsides and cheaper than eBay. Most of what I want to sell is non photographic. Interested to hear ePz members experiences.

Thanks .

I did advertise a camera with them some years ago.........got lots of dodgy offers from gentlemen mainly based in Africa, with stories of why they couldn't just buy and pay like anyone else. Stuff on E-bay that I have sold has usually fetched more than expected, so off-setting the cost. The old saying 'buyer beware' should also be 'seller be aware'.

Face to face meetings and cash only would be my advice!

That's what I thought and what I intended. That said I suppose using eBay/Paypal is safer.

Good point.

Fleabay is much better for buyers. A few years back, I bought a lens that turned out to be infected with fungus. The buyer wouldn't play ball but Paypal did a full refund.

Gumtree doesn't give any protection to either party.

I would sell a lot of non-camera stuff on Gumtree but if they can't collect: "Sorry. No."

Then with purchasing, if they won't let me collect: "Sorry. No."

In short: If someone's behaving in a dodgy way, they probably are ... dodgy. (and that means: "Sorry. No").

Thanks all. Most comments confirm what I thought. I'll probably sell all the low value items on Gumtree ( 'buyer collects' ) and the higher value items on eBay ..payment via Paypal.

I've also had a good experience with Preloved. Cheque sent in payment, cashed by me, then items dispatched by courier. No problems at all.

Have to confess that I hadn't heard of Preloved . Certainly worth a look.

Thanks for the post. A learned lesson taught here. I've seen it and wondered. Not wondering any longer.Grin

Is that a recommendation for Gumtree or has it put you off ??
