I use only rechargeables for everything. I have found that Eneloops are the best, both in terms of holding their charge when not in use and they seem to last a good deal longer than non-chargeables when in use.

Another vote for Eneloops... (not sure how true this is but Ikea's own are apparently rebranded Eneloops)

I'd agree with Phil that Eneloops are a good bet but I'd caution against assuming the source of any own-brand. Aren't companies likely to shop around for the best deal?

Some years back, Lidl did some AA that seemed to be Eneloop and they've performed just as well. The pack contained several pretty colours so we bought 4 packs so they could be kept in easily distinguished sets.

True. When I was in retail, the Co-op's own label whisky each xmas was different from year to year, and Tesco corn flakes was usually from Kelloggs, but then they changed when they got a better deal.
No reason to believe that own-label batteries are any different.

That would make sense.

However!

It's also been suggested that these are Eneloops by another name.
Now, I've no way of confirming that; or otherwise but suffice to say that I use a speedlight a lot the time, regardless of the weather and the first set I used were in my flash for months and months and several thousand shots, before they dropped a bar.
My spare ones seem to hold their charge while waiting their turn too.

Batteries may use the same technology as Eneloops but come from another manufacturer.

I bought the Lidl batteries because the instructions on the pack said that they didn't need to be recharged before use, which suggested that they'd hold their charge like Eneloops.

I bought similar batteries from 7 Day Shop for the same reason but, in my opinion, they are not as good as Eneloops.
I've used the same Eneloops for years, they are brilliant.

How much actual use has it had during that time?

Admittedly not a great deal but the point I was really trying to make was that the batteries don't discharge on their own after a month or so like another set of rechargeables I have.
