Best Broadcast Quality Camera for Filming
May I ask for recommendations for a camera / lens combo for broadcast quality results for amateur documentary making, and high-quality YouTube videos please? I’ve had enough of my P&S and my DSLR is old and not up to the job.
I don’t want anything overly complicated - as I’m certainly no expert, but due to it being work related I have a good-sized budget, and want to get the best I can, but without ordering something far beyond my skill set. I’m used to DSLR’s for photography, but never filming.
I’m guessing a 24-70mm [2.8] lens for general use? But I’m out of the loop with which body would work well and external mic, etc.
Some people are recommending I get a Canon camcorder, but I see so many people filming with DSLR's I wonder if that's a better option for me.

Most broadcast is 1080p these days and even a smartphone can manage that. 4K is the resolution above that and some phones can even achieve 4K.
However if you want professional looking results, which I'm guessing is what you mean, then you need a device with a separate microphone input.
If you would like to tell us what is your maximum budget and what you intend to do with the output e.g. sell it, then I am sure is helpful suggestions can be made.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I guess i'm looking for professional results in terms of image and sound quality over the 'best' broadcast option as i've included in the title. I just meant best options, rather than the best money can buy, but I worded it poorly.
In terms of budget, £2000/£4000 wouldn't be an issue, I could possibly have more allocated. I just don't want to buy a lot more camera than I need, or could manage, as the remaining budget could be spent on other areas, such as a good tripod, and lighting, etc.
The main use will be Youtube documentaries and blogs for promotion. There's no intention to sell the videos - although having that option would be a welcome bonus.

I worded it badly, I'm just after options on what some of the best options are (not the very best) - I will have a good sized budget, but anything that needs expert handling would be far above and beyond my skill set anyway.

The Panasonic GH5 is considered by many to be "the" camera for video. I will leave others to suggest lenses for it.
Thank you. I’ll check it out. Hopefully it’s good in low light too. You’re not wrong about Youtube, but my current camera seems to do a terrible job compared to others - but it is about 8 years old!

Even 5D filmmaking fansite https://www.eoshd.com/ would disagree with that. You really need a mirrorless machine so that you can use your viewfinder when shooting video (you can't with a 5D). The top dogs for video with interchangeable lenses are the Panasonic GH4 and the GH5 as well as the Sony A7S and A7S II and other Sony A7 cameras as well as the very popular A6300 and A6500 which produce excellent Super 35 4k video.
