Hello everyone,

I'm in Northumberland and was wondering if anyone knew of a location where the horizon is visible (I mean no tall trees or buildings) so that Iwould be able to take a photo every month at that location. I would really like to find somewhere so that we can be in the shot with the sun at different times during the year. Thank you.

I am assuming you mean landscape versus seascape? Seascapes would give you a clear horizon and you are in a fab part of the country for them.

Thank you 😊
I wouldn't mind either but thought it might be difficult to get a shot of the sun at the coast. I'll give that a go because we go there a lot.

Whereabouts are you in Northumberland? I live on the Tyne Valley, I could make suggestions for here. Further north I reckon you are spoilt for choice, it's the wide open horizons that have kept us here!

I'm in Ponteland. Willing to travel a little bit as we can make a day of it on a weekend but needs to be somewhere we can get to every month.

Reading again, I assume that you want a sunrise or sunset, the view that I was going to suggest, looking north across the Tyne valley, has the Simonside Hills on the horizon but it won't give you a sunrise.

What about somewhere like Steel Rigg up on the wall?

Sunset or sunrise would be lovely but realistically i think it will have to be mid day. I'm hoping to photograph the different positions of the sun at the same place every month with my son in the picture and can't see him getting up early for it 😆

Thanks, I'll have a look at that.

The built-up areas are generally on lower land. Find a vantage point on higher land, looking across to other hills, and you can omit buildings fairly easily. Look at the contours on an OS map, and then get the walking boots out!
